The Jungle's Dog Show 2023

The Jungle’s Annual Dog Show took place on Easter Tuesday, 11th April. Held inside, we had a great variety of breeds, sizes, shapes and colours. The illustrious Cheryl Donaldson from Country Coats Dog Grooming kindly hosted our event once again, bringing her wealth of experience and expertise to the event. We’d firstly like to say a massive thank you to Cheryl for judging at this year’s event and keeping things moving in a rather busy afternoon. Cheryl adds a level of professionalism to The Jungle Dog Show and has a keen eye for detail, enabling a fair competition.

With that said, let’s get down to business…

The Run Down

We had a total of 11 categories, as well as the ‘Best In Show’ final category. Prizes were given out to each winner and the ‘Best In Show’ received the coveted Jungle Best In Show trophy.

3rd – Olie (Mini Schnauzer)

Best Puppy (Under 12 months)

Once again, the cutest round of the day seen the Best Puppies (Under 12 months) take centre stage. A whopping total of 30 made it no easy task to choose the best 3. After much deliberation, along with quite a few ‘oohs’ and ahhs’ from the adoring crowds, they were finally whittled down to the following 3 winners:

Winners

1st – Tia (Border Terrier)

2nd – Heidi (Standard Poodle)

3rd – Loki (Flat Coated Terrier)

Best Dog

Next up, was the Best Dog category. 21 contenders lined up for this one.

Winners

2nd – Tyson (Lurcher)

3rd – Bailey (Cockapoo)

Best Bitch

A huge group of 37 dogs took to the stage to compete for the Best Bitch. This one took some judging, with so many cute little (and BIG) pups competing.

Winners

1st – Zola (Great Dane)

2nd – Luna (Red Setter)

3rd – Chloe (Cockapoo)

Best Rescue Dog

4 dogs were on show for the Best Rescue Dog category, with all dogs picking up a prize.

Best 6 Legs (Owner & Dog)

126 legs roamed the judging arena in our Best 6 Legs category, with 21 dogs and handlers. Owners paraded their pooches around the arena in the hope to be the most in sync Owner and Dog. Here’s the results:

Winners

1st – Toby (Chihuahua) and Leah

2nd – Zola (Great Dane) and Tanya

3rd – Dan (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) and Michelle

Waggiest Tail

This round presented a rather simple and fun task of finding the Waggiest Tail out of the 26 enthusiastic entrants. Owners were asked to try and get the dogs tail wagging and we simply had to find who’s was wagging the most. The most excited and happiest dogs were as follows…

Winners

1st – Lady (Lab)

2nd – Rosie (Cocker Spaniel)

3rd – Harvey (Cockapoo)

Best Young Handler (Under 16)

Next round was the handlers who were up for judging. 7 Under 16 Dog Handlers took the stage with their furry companions. They were judged on their rapport with the dog, their ability to communicate with them and how well the dog responded to them. All the years of training and bonding with their dogs was now called upon.

Winners

1st – Elie with Pippa (Labrador)

2nd – Mia with Tyson (Lurcher)

3rd – Logan with Pedro (Chihuahua)

Best Young Handler (Under 12)

The penultimate round saw an even younger batch of aspiring Dog Handlers take the stage, again with the task of showing how well they could communicate with their dog and how well the dogs responded to them. Our Best Young Handler Under 12 category had 14 young handlers.

Winners

1st – Oliver with Maximus (Staffordshire Bull Terrier)

2nd – Cliona with Miley (Lurcher)

3rd – Alison with Agnus (Wire Head Fox Terrier)

Best In Show

The final round of the day was the Best In Show. All the winners from previous rounds were gathered for the final round. With such an array of awesome and impressive specimens, this was no easy feat to decide the winner. The final call was made and the winner of the coveted Jungle Dog Show Best In Show trophy went to….

Best In Show – KING (Lurcher)

Handler – Cliona Owens

Congratulations to Cliona and King for winning the 2023 Jungle Dog Show, Best In Show.
